Leverkusen - Die therapeutische Apherese ist ein innovatives Behandlungsverfahren, mit dem Stoffe, die Krankheiten verursachen, außerhalb des Körpers schonend aus dem Blut entfernt werden können. Speziell zur Behandlung von Patienten mit schweren Fettstoffwechselstörungen hat das Bad Homburger Medizintechnikunternehmen Fresenius Medical Care eine neue Technologie namens DALI® (Direct Adsorption of LIpoproteins) entwickelt. Mit ihr lässt sich unter anderem LDL-Cholesterin, das wegen seines Einflusses auf die Gefäßverkalkung auch "schlechtes Cholesterin" genannt wird, aus dem Blut abtrennen. Herzstück der Technologie ist ein Adsorber, gefüllt mit einem speziellen Material, das zum Beispiel das LDL-Cholesterin elektrostatisch bindet. Für das Gehäuse des Adsorbersystems wurde ein bruchsicherer Kunststoff gesucht. "Erste Wahl war schließlich unser Makrolon® 2458", erläutert Markus Krieter, Experte für Medizintechnik in der Business Unit Polycarbonates der Bayer MaterialScience AG. "Das Polycarbonat ist ausreichend zäh und steif, weshalb das Gehäuse im oft hektischen Krankenhausalltag nicht so schnell Schaden nimmt. Außerdem übersteht unser Werkstoff problemlos die Heißdampfsterilisation des DALI® Adsorbers unter Druck, bei der über etwa 20 Minuten eine Temperatur von mindestens 121 °C herrscht." Ein weiterer Vorteil des Polycarbonates ist die hohe Transparenz, die eine ständige visuelle Sichtkontrolle der Blutbehandlung durch das Krankenhauspersonal erlaubt und so zu mehr Patientensicherheit beiträgt. Makrolon® 2458 erfüllt die Anforderungen, die die amerikanische Norm US-Pharmacopeia, Class VI, an die biologische Verträglichkeit von Kunststoffen stellt. Wie alle Produkte von Bayer MaterialScience für die Medizintechnik entspricht es außerdem der übergeordneten, international gültigen Norm ISO 109931 zur Biokompatibilität von Kunststoffen, die bis zu 30 Tage in Kontakt mit Körperflüssigkeiten und -gewebe stehen. Bei der DALI® Therapie wird das Blut des Patienten einer Armvene entnommen und über den Adsorber geleitet. Dort bleibt das LDL-Cholesterin an den Adsorberkügelchen hängen. Über die andere Armvene gelangt das gereinigte Blut wieder in den Körper des Patienten zurück. Seit der Einführung wurden mit der DALI® Therapie mehr als 160.000 Behandlungen durchgeführt. Rezepturkonstanz und langfristige Verfügbarkeit der Produkte Bayer MaterialScience erzielt einen Großteil seines Geschäftes mit namhaften Medizintechnikherstellern im Rahmen exklusiver Entwicklungskooperationen. "Wir legen sehr großen Wert darauf, dabei als verlässlicher Partner zu gelten. Deshalb stellen wir die langfristige Verfügbarkeit und Liefersicherheit unserer Werkstoffe für die Medizintechnik sicher und geben verbindliche Zusagen zur Konstanz der jeweiligen Rezepturen", erklärt Krieter. Über Kooperationen hinaus beobachtet Bayer MaterialScience Normänderungen in der Medizintechnik und prüft eigenständig die betroffenen Werkstoffe entsprechend den erweiterten Anforderungen. Das Unternehmen unterstützt die Hersteller medizinischer Geräte und zugehörige Kunststoffverarbeiter mit einem umfangreichen Service. "Wir helfen von der Konzeption eines Kunststoffbauteils über die Konstruktion und den Werkzeugbau bis hin zum Produktionsstart", so Krieter. Zum Beispiel stehen CAE-Tools zur Analyse der thermischen Ausdehnung und der statischen und dynamischen Eigenschaften eines Bauteils zur Verfügung. Zum Servicepaket gehören unter anderem auch thermogravimetrische Messungen und Screening-Versuche zur Kontaktmedienbeständigkeit sowie rheologische Berechnungen, um etwa störende Bindenähte zu verlegen oder das Werkzeugfüllverhalten zu optimieren.
