Auf der Basis neuer organischer Materialien hat sich in den letzten Jahren das neue Technologiefeld Polymerelektronik entwickelt, in dem elektronische Bauteile auf flexiblen Substraten, wie Plastikfolie oder Papier, produziert werden können. Organische Leuchtdioden (OLEDs) für Bildschirme oder Leuchtanzeigen sind gegenwärtig die bekanntesten Bauteile dieser Art. In Zukunft sollen auch Solarzellen, RFID-Chips oder Sensoren auf Polymer-Basis produziert werden. Einer der größten Vorteile dieses Wachstumsmarktes ist die kostengünstige Herstellung dieser Bauteile. Durch den Einsatz von Massendruckverfahren bei der Herstellung der Polymerelektronik kann außerdem die Produktivität um den Faktor 10.000 bis 100.000 gesteigert werden. Die Szene dieser zukunftsorientierten Wachstumsbranche hat sich in der Organic Electronics Association (OE-A) zusammengeschlossen, einer Arbeitsgemeinschaft des Verbandes Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau (VDMA). Die OE-A ist die weltweit wichtigste Informations- und Kommunikationsplattform auf dem Gebiet der Polymerelektronik. Mehr als 65 Mitglieder aus Europa und den USA, darunter Unternehmen wie BASF, MAN Roland, Siemens oder Samsung arbeiten in der OE-A mit Forschungsinstituten zusammen, um den Aufbau einer leistungsfähigen Infrastruktur für die Produktion von organischer Elektronik zu fördern. "Unser Ziel ist die Verbindung von Forschung, Technologie und Anwendung, um diesem innovativen Markt gerecht zu werden und die Entwicklung voranzutreiben", betont Dr. Klaus Hecker, Managing Director der OE-A. Auch in und um Chemnitz, einem der führenden Standorte des neuen Technologiefeldes, sind mehrere Firmen und Institute Mitglieder der OE-A. Dazu zählen die KSG Leiterplatten GmbH, die printed systems GmbH, das Fraunhofer Institut für Zuverlässigkeit und Mikrointegration Chemnitz sowie das Institut für Print- und Medientechnik der TU Chemnitz, welche Anfang des Jahres den innovativen regionalen Wachstumskern "printronics" initiiert haben, der in den ersten drei Jahren mit 5,3 Millionen Euro vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung gefördert wird. In Zusammenarbeit mit der 3D-Micromac AG, der GEMAC mbH sowie der GETT Gerätetechnik GmbH verfolgen sie nun das Ziel, unter dem Leitspruch "printed electronics everywhere" in einem Zeitraum von zehn Jahren führende Anbieter von massengedruckten elektronischen Produkten zu werden. Langfristig soll sich "printronics" als internationales Kompetenz- und Produktionszentrum für massengedruckte Polymerelektronik etablieren. Für das Meeting der OE-A am 25. und 26. Juli 2006 werden 70 Teilnehmer aus aller Welt erwartet. Das Treffen dient dazu, über Fragen der Standardisierung und die erwarteten Technologieentwicklungen in der Polymerelektronik zu diskutieren. Auch der Wachstumskern "printronics" wird sich präsentieren. "So können wir unsere Kontakte zu diesem internationalen Netzwerk weiter festigen", sieht Andreas Ehrle, Geschäftsführer der printed systems GmbH und Sprecher des Wachstumskerns, den Vorteil des OE-A Meetings in Chemnitz. Gastgeber ist die TU Chemnitz mit ihrem Institut für Print- und Medientechnik, einer führenden Forschungsstätte im Bereich gedruckter organischer Elektronik.
